This past week has been one of the more blissed out weeks we've had in a long time. After a very hectic pack up from London, we flew to Milan and drove up (the precarious roads) to Lake Como for a week of relaxation.
Almost immediately we all fell ill, which was highly anticipated. I have a tendency to always get sick as soon as I allow myself to slow down a bit, but it has hardly been an issue when the agenda has been:do as little as possible.
We are staying ON the lake, in a tiny town called Bellagio, which is a nobbly little bit in the middle of the upside down "Y" that is Lake Como.
Maddie loves feeding the ducks outside our apartment and we have just wandered around, exploring by boat and foot, and doing a lot of reading and napping. Whilst the rest of the world calls it Lake Como, we shall always affectionately call it Duck Pond, as per what Madeleine shouts out every time the lake comes into view!!
It is off-season here now which has its pros and cons. Pro's = a free upgrade into an apartment fit for rock stars (literally, it was featured in Italian Vogue, did we score or what?!); a quiet town to ourselves without the usual heaving crowds. Con's = a lot of shops and restaurants are closed for the season so there's not a lot of dining options around town.
But as you can see, we've managed just fine!!! It has been ridiculous how beautiful things are here, and despite 48 hours of torrential rain, we've had not a care in the world.
Pete even managed to find an enoteca that was open, and we had a lovely (gluten free) Italian meal at restaurant Suisse by the Lake.
And the gelato..... Oh the gelato...
We got around in a very un-photo-worthy station wagon fit for a toddler, but there's another way to do it! My friend Angie chose a far more glamorous ride around Lake Como, fit for a movie star!
As of tomorrow though we have to say arriverdeci to Italy and make our way to Innsbruck. We have a bit of an Austrian road trip ahead of us next week, stopping off in Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna.
Does anyone have any tips for us for Austria?? We are flying blind, so any recommendations are warmly welcomed!!!!
