Santa DID come to Abu Dhabi, ho ho ho!
Its a little late, but Merry Christmas!!! I figure sending Christmas wishes within a week of Christmas Day is still in the festive season, so still counts (oh and I hope some of our friends feel the same way as I'm quite sure they are yet to receive our card!).
Our first Christmas in Abu Dhabi was a really fun one! I was worried that we would be stuck in a hotel without a shred of festive cheer in sight, but instead, we had this...
We managed to move into our apartment a few days before Christmas and so whilst we didn't have a table to eat at, we had a tree to sit by, and at Christmas time, it is my clear preference to be that way anyway!
We spent the morning making cinnamon scroll gf pancakes (more about these another day!!), and making a few Christmas treats to take to our friends' place for lunch, while we waited for Madeleine to wake up.
She'd been to bed a little later than normal, but really, what 2.5 year old wakes up at 11am on Christmas morning!!!! Us adults were starting to get a bit antsy wanting her to wake up so we could show her the glitter that the reindeers left on the balcony as well as all the other magical things that is Christmas morning. We had to be out the door by 12, so we had a little bit of time to go through our stockings before putting on our Christmas best and walking over to Kate's house.
There we had merriment, champagne, a little bit of terrace cricket, Incredible food and a lot more champagne. It was perfect.
At one point one of the Dad's came over to me and said very earnestly, "By the way, your daughter is having the time of her life". I was sure the sentence was going to end with "a meltdown" but when I peered outside again, she was laughing with her new little friends, and my Mama-heart relaxed for the first time since moving to Abu Dhabi. Never mind how we are going to settle in here, my main concern is making sure Maddie is still her happy little self. And so far, she is beyond.
We came back home, opened a few presents and Skyped with our loved ones. It is my favourite part of Christmas day, getting to speak to (almost) all of our families on the one day, while drinking some egg nog of course!
I'm so pleased Santa was able to find us in Abu Dhabi, we had such a lovely day, and I hope you had such a special time with your nearest and dearest too.
