I blinked and three weeks have passed. Our son, Lachlan Ash was born three weeks ago, on December 2nd and life has been a bit of a blur ever since.
Lachlan was born at 10:15am, weighing 3.14kg (6"9) and was nice and long at 53cm (21 inches). Due to complications after Madeleine's natural delivery last time, I had no choice but to have a planned c-section for this baby, so we scheduled his birthday and got as prepared as we could for something we knew we could never possibly be prepared for!!
We have completely forgotten what life with a newborn is like but thankfully the intoxicating magic of new baby snuggles more than makes up for the nights of little to no sleep. We've had a tough time recently with Lachlan being sick and with another health scare and ER trip for me, and so now we are really appreciating a few quieter days settling into life as a family of four at the most wonderful time of the year.
Thr most beautiful part of having a second child is definitely watching your two children interact and fall in love with one another. Madeleine is constantly kissing and hugging her baby brother and spontaneously tells him that she loves him all the time. In response Lachlan watches her every move and calms down instantly when we give him to her for a cuddle.
Our hearts just about burst watching them together, it is amazing to see how quickly they have bonded. And it is true what every parent of more than one says, you worry that your heart couldn't possibly love a second child the way you love your first, but then you have your second and your heart grows. You cannot remember a time when it wasn't completely consumed with loving these two little cherubs. And then you remember that this little baby is going to start smiling back at you soon and you know that that'll just be the very end of your resolve, he will hold all the power. And I for one cannot wait.
Welcome to the world Lachlan Ash. Our family has been waiting for you.
