On Monday I alluded to the fact that we have some news, and that it is pretty big news. Today I am super excited to share it with you! Its been a long time coming, and a decision that we have carefully considered for the past few months.
Four years ago we left Australia bound for the UK, for "who knows" how long. After our year in Oxford we made the move to London, had Madeleine and got pretty comfortable in Hampstead. We have loved living in Hampstead and have made the most of some pretty awesome European travels, but after four years in the UK, it's time for a change.
And so we are trading the cobble stones for sand, the grey skies for endless sunshine and the rolling green hills for....well more sand. Maddie is pretty excited and tells people everyday where we are moving to, so I thought she could be the one to tell you too!! (please excuse my very Aussie accent, I'm not sure what was going on there....)
So there you have it, we are moving to Abu Dhabi!
We are so excited go and have some new experiences and explore a different part of the world for a few years. I am excited to expose Maddie to a different culture and for a girl who LOVES playing in the sand and hates the rain, I think its just the place for her!
It is obviously going to be a huge change from life in London, but a change we both feel very ready for. That doesn't mean it isn't also mixed with a fair bit of anxiety too, but excitement is the main emotion for now!! That mixed in with general busy-ness thanks to a substantial number of "To Do" lists floating around the house!!!
One of my main concerns about our "sand change" is that of melting. I'm not a huge fan of the heat, so the desert is not the obvious location for me to move to. Maddie was dangerously close to melting when we were there, so we all have a little acclimatising to do when we arrive. Having not lived in a hot climate for many years, I've kind of forgotten what its like and am naively thrilled about being "gorgeously tanned in summer". Which means, I am now pretty much Olaf. (We need to get Madeleine hooked on a new show, there's way to much Frozen going on...)
Today is Pete's last day at work and then the packing begins. We have a few weeks left in London and i'm really excited to do all those last things that we want to do before we leave. We aren't heading straight to the UAE though! Pete has been put on Garden Leave, which means we have the opportunity to spend some time travelling before he can start work in December.
Our plans are changing daily, but I'm pretty pumped about our current November itinerary - there's no doubting we're soaking in some green winter before we head off to the worlds' most giant sandpit!!! Lots and lots of change, but exciting times ahead!!!
