Celebrating your baby's 1st birthday is such a special occasion. It celebrates not only the beautiful little person that is growing and thriving, but also celebrates the hugely monumental achievement of the parents surviving the first year of nurturing a human being. It is a sentimental time, a time for reflection and for taking a few deep breaths and maybe exchanging a few high fives with one another for getting through it.
A First Birthday party is very much for the adults and not the baby, unless of course they have older siblings, and then it is 98% for them!! But all I really wanted for Lachlan's 1st Birthday was to somehow have family around him. So we had two little celebrations for him. One on the actual day, with cake and bubbles, when my Mum was visiting. And then we had a little party two weeks later when my Brother was here, and so Lachlan had Maddie and cousins and friends roaring and singing and it was my every wish come true.
Continuing our tradition of celebrating birthdays with a birthday theme based around their favourite book at the time, we threw Lachlan a small Birthday party with the theme of That's Not My Lion. I kept the decorations pretty simple because the Christmas decorations were all around the rest of the house, but we had a lot of fun in the jungle with our little birthday Lion!
The playdoh jungle was a massive hit with all the kids! I just made 4 batches of green playdoh and put a heap of jungle animals and branches from the Christmas tree and let the kids play! And by the by, how gorgeous are my two nephews!?!
The favourite of the food (besides the cake of course!) was the lion dip! It was so simple and just looked adorable
To our baby boy, not so much a baby, quickly becoming a boy, we love you to bits. You are spirited and strong, love to laugh and blow kisses, and you just can't wait to be doing whatever your big sister is doing. You are learning and growing so much faster than I was prepared for, but when we met you my heart grew but so much more than I could have imagined too. Enjoy being a big ONE year old, but lets not get to TWO too quickly ok!?!
